Giorgia Righetti

From another point of view

Giorgia Righetti

Giorgia Righetti is the girl behind @leseinesmoblesvintage, a personal project of furniture restoration and vintage decoration. Giorgia was born in Rimini but studied interior design in Barcelona, where she settled 20 years ago.

We meet her in her showroom, a space that is constantly changing according to the furniture she collects and where she appears with Domingo, a huge Labrador who, if you get distracted, throws himself at you or escapes for a stroll around the neighbouring shops.

In the showroom you can appreciate Giorgia's potential to create and transform the space, to mix colours with class and harmony or to turn the decoration into pieces of art. At the end of the space is the workshop where she restores the pieces that she has been collecting all over Spain and France in her van. There he brings out their full potential, painting them in bright colours, or simply touching up the finishes.

Giorgia is also an art director, has collaborated with photographers and artists, and is open to all kinds of projects related to her passions, art, aesthetics and vintage decoration.

Q - What is your work process and what is the part you enjoy the most?

A - Probably the most fun part of my job is the search for pieces. I really enjoy travelling with the van and seeing new places, like markets and giant furniture warehouses, or spending a thousand hours talking to people who share my passion and from whom I always learn new things.

Q - Do you have any kind of selection filter and how do you select parts?

A - I probably have one, but I wouldn't know which one it is. I'm very attracted to decorative objects, you could say it's love at first sight, something very personal. Often I can't get rid of them and I take them home instead of selling them. I always suffer a bit from that moment of buying and selling, I always say that I have a kind of mini furniture diomania.

Q - What positive experiences have Les eines given you?

A - Lots of things! It's a project that grows every day and that has given me the opportunity to collaborate in different projects as an interior designer or, what I'm most excited about because it's a new territory for me, as an art director and location scout.

Q - Which piece are you most excited about finding?

A - Actually I have a lot of favourites, I go very much by period, lately I'm quite obsessed with 90's decorations. White porcelain, bamboo, methacrylate, glass and marble are all my favourites, but I still appreciate the classics of the 50s such as Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Jean Prouvé and Mategot. I am also crazy about the space age of the 60s and 70s, the carpets and plastic furniture of Joe Colombo and the interiors of Verner Panton.

Q - What designs do you admire or would you like to have?

A - The metal furniture of Mario Botta and Philippe Starck and the shapes of Peter Shire.

Q - What other work are you currently working on?

A - Lately I have been collecting photos of portals and buildings from my archive that I would like to publish in fanzine or mini-book format. Another goal I have for this year is to bring out a small collection of furniture.

Q - Where do you want to take Les Eines or your profession in general?

A - I want to focus more on interior design, which is what I like the most, and make my own furniture.
