From another point of view
Loreto Mauleón
Loreto Mauleón
Actress
We agreed to meet up in Madrid, near our shop on Calle Argensola, and we walked around a few places in the capital. Loreto told us that she goes to some of them when she wants to switch off. We talked about films, her most recent works, literature and life in general. There were plenty of laughs and also moments of listening.

NT — Although it may seem like a pretty common childhood dream, did you ever dream of becoming an actor or was it something that emerged over time?
Loreto — In my case, it’s not something I ever dreamed about – or at least not consciously. It’s something that came about and turned into my profession, which I absolutely love.
NT — Which are the films, directors or actors that have had the greatest impact on you or that you admire the most?
Loreto — There are classics such as 12 Angry Men and Singin in the Rain that left their mark on me, and I really admire female filmmakers such as Celia Rico, Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and Pilar Palomero.

NT — How would you define that magic that you speak of when you talk about films?
Loreto — I think that that magic is down to the efforts of so many people – as if they were cogs in the same machine – where each and every one does their job to turn the project into reality. When we all show up while respecting each other’s work and space, the magic happens and the work becomes extremely enjoyable.
NT — Which part of the process for making a film or series do you enjoy the most?
Loreto — I really enjoy doing the character study, building the character and doing research on my own. But what I really love is putting myself in front of my colleague and letting their words change me.

NT — You’ve just released Querer, a series - that we highly recommend - where you play a solicitor defending a client accused of rape. What’s the process like to prepare for such a complex role?
Loreto — As it Is such a delicate project, the crucial thing for me was to treat it with respect and search for the truth. This was why I spoke with a solicitor and did a lot of reading on it. We also attended a court case to make it as realistic as possible.

NT — How would you define your style? Why do you love wearing nice things?
Loreto — I love the fact that I look really good while feeling extremely comfy. I think that nice things has a natural, timeless style, which is how I like to be dressed.
NT — What upcoming projects are you working on?
Loreto — As we always say, I can’t tell you what I’m working on, hehehe, but I’m about to release a lovely gem of a film that I’ve immensely enjoyed making La buena letra which is directed by Celia Rico and based on the novel with the same title by writer Rafael Chirbes.
