BOLOGNA
Nice Places - Episode 05
The same thing happens with places as with music or smells: they create memories. They evoke situations from the past we’ve felt a connection with. With Nice Places, we want to put these places on the map – places that are part of our story and that we want to share with you as we’re absolutely sure that you’ll love them.
Wandering around its ochre and terracotta-coloured streets is an absolute pleasure for the senses. Any corner – whether it’s a square, one of the thousands of arcades strewn about the city, a restaurant or a simple avenue – retains its original charm, which is why having a wander is an unforgettable experience. Bologna is a city of towers, arcades and students; it’s a place you’ll always want to go back to.

Spot 1/6 · Piazza Maggiore
When you’re wandering around Bologna, it seems that all roads lead you here: the Piazza Maggiore, the city’s central square, which boasts palazzos and museums galore, aside from being flanked by the iconic arcades. You simply can’t miss it if you’re in the city.

Spot 2/6 · Shop windows
Although strolling around and admiring shop windows is something you can do in any city, this city takes the experience to a whole new level. The local businesses simply ooze authenticity and charm, so you can’t help but stop at every corner. Corner shops, book shops, the fishmonger’s, art galleries... the options are endless. We particularly recommend visiting Ex Negozio Gavina, a work by the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa.

Spot 3/6 · Music Museum
Whether or not you love music, this is a place you simply must visit. Here, you’ll find antique musical instruments, books, manuscripts and even originals by Mozart. It’s housed in a 16th- century palazzo, where you’ll definitely fall in love with the architecture, colours and frescoes on the walls of each room.

Spot 4/6 · Piazza Cavour
The defining feature of this city is its porticoes. Look no further than any of the souvenir shops to see that these and its famous towers are its most iconic elements. We highly recommend strolling around the porticoes of the Piazza Cavour, which feature lovely and interesting frescoes on its ceilings.

Spot 5/6 · Ristorante Diana
This restaurant is an institution among the locals. Founded more than a century ago, the tradition and savoir-faire that are the hallmarks of Italian cuisine permeate everything: custom printed plates with the restaurant’s name, silverware and servers wearing suits. It’s the perfect place to try any of the quintessential dishes from Bologna, such as tortellini in brodo or the famous tagliatelle alla bolognese.

Spot 6/6 · Hills
An oasis of peace with gorgeous views of the city. The best thing to round off this tour is to climb one of the many hills around the city and enjoy the views in an environment dotted with villas and sprawling gardens. The perfect place to have a picnic and try your hand at finding one of the many towers of Bologna.
